Itinerary
  Saturday | Arrival in Bamako
Evening reception at Bamako international airport, transfer to the Sofitel L'AmitiÈ hotel or River Lodge, on the banks of the Niger river. Information meeting and dinner.
 
Sunday | Mandingue country
Tour of the Malian capital and the national museum in the morning. Excursion to Mandingue country, the birthplace of the Mali empire. Walk in the hills in the middle of waterfalls. Picnic lunch under the arch. Tour of prehistoric sites and Mande villages. Return to the hotel at the end of the day, dinner.
 
Monday | En route for Djenne
Travelling through numerous savannah villages of Bambara and Bobo. Picnic lunch under the shade of the mango trees. Arrival in Djenne at the end of the day, dinner and night at the encampment.
 
Tuesday | Djenne
Tour of the city and its celebrated mosque, on the list of world cultural heritage. A stroll through the markets and a tour of historical monuments. At the end of the day, en route for Dogon country. Dinner and overnight stay at a village encampment.
 
Wednesday | Dogon country
The first stop on your journey to discover Dogon country is an astonishing village where three religions coexist. Tour of the villages of the plateau, the cliff and the plain. Meetings with the people of the land. Dinner and night at a village encampment.
 
Thursday | Mopti: the Venice of Mali
We reach Mopti at the end of the morning. Walk through the town and along the banks of the Niger river. Dinner and night at a hotel of exotic charm.
 
Friday | The Niger river
River cruise by pinasse (traditional dug-out canoe). A visit of the villages of the Bozo fishermen and the encampments of Peul breeders. Arrival in Guidio, a village clinging to the cliff where we dine and spend the night.
 
Saturday | Lake Debo
We continue our river cruise, arriving in the heart of Mali's Lake Debo, a veritable inland sea. A picnic lunch and bivouac on the immense white dunes of Waki.
 
Sunday | Tuareg country
Arrival in Timbuktu by river at the end of the afternoon. En route for the desert where we spend the evening: spit-roasted lamb dinner, traditional Tuareg music and night under the tents of the blue men.
 
Monday | Mysterious Timbuktu
Tour of the Imperial city, a Unesco listed world cultural Heritage site. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
 
Tuesday | Gourma
En route for the mountainous region of Gourma. Lunch in Douentza. Walk at the foot of the mountains and the setting sun over the pink dunes facing Mount Hombori. Dinner and overnight stay at the encampment.
 
Wednesday | On the trail of the elephants
We follow the trail of West Africa's last elephants. They move freely from Mali to the Burkinabe border. Dinner and night at the encampment.
 
Thursday | The mountain villages
Tour of the labyrinth village of Hombori. Walk at the foot of the Hand of Fatma, the mountain of a thousand legends. On the way to Mopti, we stop along the way in Borko, the sacred crocodile oasis. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in SÈvarÈ.
 
Friday | Segou, capital of the Bambara kingdom
On the way back, we stop off to visit the city of Segou, on the banks of the river, and its craftsmen: potters and weavers. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
 
Saturday | Bamako, return trip
We reach the Malian capital in the morning. En route, we visit Sekoro, the ancient capital of the Bambara kingdom. After lunch, an afternoon rest and walk in Bamako. Transfer to the international airport and departure.

 
Travel conditions

This tour accommodates small groups (no more than 2 to 8 people). By car, you travel in a comfortable air-conditioned 4x4, systematically checked to ensure technical performance and cleanliness.

The pace of the journey depends on your interests and wishes. You can stop to take photos or buy a product, for example...

You team up with another 4x4 vehicle used for logistics: meals, technical assistance, transport of bivouac equipment, etc.

You travel with an experienced guide, a personal cook and drivers.

Accommodation and meals

Riverside offers accommodation and high quality catering. The rest stops are organised in optimal comfort conditions:

We alternate your nights between hotels and encampments.
The hotels we have selected are known for their quality and typical character.
Our encampments are simply laid out, combining comfort and authenticity.
We set a premium on the pleasure of good eating: meals and buffets are prepared on site by our Malian chef. Just because you're travelling doesn't mean you have to deprive yourself. We do everything possible to offer you high-quality cuisine, featuring a variety of dishes, healthy food, each and every day. Beverages and music are at your disposal for a festive atmosphere.

Insurance

Repatriation insurance, obligatory when purchasing your holiday, covers the organisation of any health-related treatment and care you may require, along with your eventual repatriation during the course of your holiday.

15 days / 14 nights, full-board accommodation, outside of airline ticket

Individual travel (single room and tent): +320 euros
20% discount for children -12

The price includes: transport by air-conditioned 4x4, hotel and encampment accommodations (room or double tent), full board and mineral water during meals at the Riverside encampment, supervision and assistance of the specialised team (multilingual guide, private cook), visits mentioned and eventual entry fees, transfers and local air transport, tourist taxes and visitor tax.

The price does not include: international flights and airport taxes, insurance (medical, repatriation, lost baggage and cancellation costs), extras, drinks and mineral water in hotels and restaurants, extras and beverages additional to those served with meals at the Riverside encampment.

Groups from 2 to 8 people.
The price is the same and departures are ensured whatever the number of participants.
Schedule

Trips are organised during the months of July, August, September, October, November, December, January, February, March.

Departure from Paris every Saturday, return from Bamako the following Saturday.
